Sekaring Jagad Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat
Sekaring Jagad Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat
Sekaring Jagad Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat has been published in the memory of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwana IX, a great appreciator, developer and supporter of the unique culture of the Special Territory of Yogyakarta. This publication - along with the related batik exhibition and presentation of the Royal Wedding Ceremony from the Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Kraton - was the personal suggestion of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwana IX before he passed away.
Batik, which has always been closely associated with the Javanese culture, is not only a work of art, but also contains deep philosophical value and beliefs. This elegant and richly toned textile has a close association with the daily lives of the Javanese, both within the palace and outside.
Himpunan Wastraprema, an association of those who love Indonesia's traditional textiles, has several times presented similar activities such as this publication and exhibition, receiving positive response from the public. The publishing of this book, besides being part of an effort to expand the number of books about batik, and contributing to the study of textiles in general, is also hoped to stimulate a sense of appreciation and responsibility about our national cultural heritage.
