Mengungkap Pola Nitik Dalam Wastra Batik
Mengungkap Pola Nitik Dalam Wastra Batik
Nitik is a decorative type of ceplokan composed of fine lines, small blocks, rectangles, and fine dots that at first glance resemble weaving. The nitik decoration is influenced by patola cloth, a double ikat weave made from silk from India. In the Javanese palace, this cloth is called cinde, it is a favorite cloth in the palace, worn by kings and nobles on special occasions, and also by bedaya ketawang dancers (a sacred bedaya dance in the palace). Because it is expensive and difficult to obtain, batik cloth is made with decorations that resemble patola.
This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition “Mengungkap Pola Nitik Dalam Wastra Batik", which was organized in collaboration between the Jakarta Textile Museum and the Wastraprema Association in commemoration of its 37th anniversary. This exhibition presented a glimpse of the story of batik with various nitik decorations from three regions: Yogyakarta, Surakarta and Pekalongan. Profusely illustrated with beautiful images of batiks with various nitik decorations from the collection of 12 well-known Indonesian textiles collectors, this book is a very valuable reference.
