Traces of the Minangkabau people's customs and ways of life can be found in their daily lives, especially in traditional ceremonies. Colorful processions, advice from traditional leaders, and feasts filled with dishes are the hallmarks of Minangkabau traditional ceremonies. One thing that really stands out in every ceremony is the use of typical clothing. To take part in the ceremony, men and women must be guided by the clothing code outlined by custom. Each function and meaning in the ceremony is represented by certain clothing. The importance of clothing in the lives of the Minang people is closely related to the development of weaving activities in Minangkabau. Initially woven cloth was made by groups, villages and regions, for their own needs. Woven cloth can be used by every member of the group. Next, the woven cloth will be made into a harato heirloom basamo (a shared inheritance of a people) and stored in the Rumah Gadang (main house). This common wealth must be maintained and must not be sold. It is a disgrace if the inherited assets of a people are sold or even sold out. Various patterns, shapes, types, materials, sizes and colors of woven fabrics are made according to the origin of the fabric. In general, the motifs and decorative variations of weaving from each nagari and region are similar. One thing that is different is the way or style of use which also represents the identity of a particular nagari or tribe. Accompanied by photos and drawings, this book publication provides a real picture of motifs, decorations and types of woven fabric. A glimpse of the history of society and the development of Minangkabau weaving is also discussed in it.
