Arie Smit: The enchanting tropics - Limited Edition of 500 copies
Arie Smit was a Dutch-Indonesian artist known for his expressive depictions of the tropical landscapes of the island of Bali. In subsequent years, Arie spent most of his time hiding in many corners of Bali. Until his 80th birthday, which was in 1996, he had moved more than 30 times from one place in Bali to another. “ I am always after tranquility and clarity in Life…I never like crowded places,” he once said. This personal preference turned out to be far from his own works, most of which are rich in colors, brilliance, and light. The themes of his works follows the road. The Balinese would call it “dari kaja ke Kelod” (‘from the mountain to the sea’). All the works in this collection has been carefully selected by Arie Smit and Rudolf G. Usman. All paintings in this limited edition book are from the collections of Neka Art Museum, Duta Fine Arts,Rudolf G. Usman, Bakri, W. Biantoro Wanandi, Budi Setiadharma, Gunawan Armadja, R. Rizal, Suprajitno Sutomo, Ijek.W, Ibrahim Soemedi, Eddy I. Juana, Daniel Komala, Iwan Satriawan.
