This 19th-century silver and copper box from South Sulawesi is a well-preserved example of local craftsmanship influenced by Dutch colonial designs. Though rectangular in form, the faceted corners create an eight-sided profile. The surface is engraved on all sides with floral and foliate motifs, and the box is fitted with a raised, hinged lid.
Boxes of this type were traditionally used to store shredded tobacco and betel nut. The silver surface shows a natural patina developed over time, with warm copper tones subtly visible beneath.
