- This fine bag was used in Gayo or Alas Sumatra, probably by prominent families , to carry betel leaves and lime. It comprises a substructure of cotton, which has then been covered in gold sheet foil, segments of which are still present and visible. The bag is then covered with beautifully woven pandanus leaves decorated with glass. To keep the sirih leaves secure and in place, the bag is fitted with intricate braided silver chains with a silver lime container attached at the end. The bag is in fine condition and with ample signs of age and use. Some of the gold foil beneath the woven pandanus leaves appears to have been lost.
